Twice a year (Fall and Spring), the Afghan Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock holds a fair for agriculture producers, farmers, and businessmen to showcase their products and strengthen professional relations. This year, around 200 local and international companies were involved in the three-day event (Oct. 30-Nov. 1, 2013), which marks the 13th agricultural fair held in Kabul since the Taliban regime was overthrown in 2001.
MADERA, with funding from the European Commission, has been supporting Nursery Growers Associations (NGAs) since 2007 to improve their technical skills for the citrus and stone fruit industry in the eastern provinces of Afghanistan (Laghman, Kunar/Nuristan, and Nangarhar). Members from each of the three NGAs which MADERA supports were able to attend the fair, and display their products (such as certified saplings), in their respective booths. The fair also provided them with a convenient venue to learn about different products, services and machinery being used around the country, especially from regions which may be difficult for them to access.
